The nitty gritty
The Slice of Haven Food & Wine Festival has become a leading gourmet lifestyle event on the Mid North Coast social calendar, attracting over 13,000 people in 2018.
This year's theme is all about Hollywood glitz and glamour - we're marking 75 years since legendary US comedian Bob Hope accidentally landed on the Camden Haven River. True story! It was 1944, Bob and an entourage of top entertainers were flying back to Sydney after completing 150 shows in the Pacific region during WW2. His Catalina crash-landed in the Camden Haven River. Find out more here and purchase the book, It's not Hollywood, But... by local historian Mitch McKay here.
Use local produce to create a unique event dishes that align with the Hollywood / Camden Haven, wartime era. To get your creative juices flowing, the 1940s featured big bands, Glenn Miller, jazz, The Andrews Sisters, Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holliday, and the crooners like Perry Como and Frank Sinatra. The first half of the decade was war, so there was rationing, but when people wanted a good time it was all about dancing and lifting the patriotic spirit.
Dress up your team and your stalls to create an unforgettable atmosphere for the thousands of visitors!
